Giacomo Puccini, the great lucchese composer

Published in Our Blog

Lucca can boast a musical tradition that does not have many equals. Just to mention some of his composers: Nicolao Dorati, Cristoforo Malvezzi, Gioseffo Guami, Giovanni Lorenzo Gregori, Francesco Barsanti, Francesco Gemignani, Filippo Manfredi, Luigi Boccherini, Alfredo Catalani and Giacomo Puccini. Surely the richness of this tradition derives from the fact that musical events were considered an important ornament of political and social life. Land of musicians, Giacomo Puccini is undoubtedly the most loved and known of. Manon Lescaut, La Bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, La Fanciulla del West, The Triptych, Turandot, triumph in theaters all over the world and the recognition of the greatness of his music is unanimous. Lucca offered the young Puccini all his musical culture: the conservatory where he studied, the "hundred" Churches with the organs and choirs and with the patrons who commissioned; the palaces with that nobility that deeply loved music, as well as all the citizens who poured into the splendid Teatro del Giglio.

Discover the Puccini Museum:

The Puccini Museum, under this name we summarise the places connected with the life of Giacomo Puccini. The Museum Homes, centres for research, the institutions responsible for the production of the works of the Master, and finally the sites, which cannot be visited, but nevertheless evoke his memory and his work, presented in the form of a material and immaterial route offered to tourists and enthusiasts.

The Puccini Museum thus consists of an organised museum complex which brings together the points of interest concerning Puccini, to offer everyone the opportunity to learn about the different moments of the biography of the Master in close correlation with the places where he lived and composed many of his masterpieces.

Lucca Comics and Games

Published in Our Blog

Lucca Comics & Games has been taking place in the wonderful city of Lucca for many years now: since 1996 to be precise, but really since 1966 if we consider the original edition was named as Il Salone Internazionale dei Comics, the International Comics Salon, which is always held the last weekend of October.

The event is divided into the exposition area, where you’ll find hundreds and hundreds of stands, and the area dedicated to exhibitions, shows, games, and reenactments of historical games which is actually spread out over the city.

From a technical point of view, the convention is divided into Lucca Comics and Lucca Games, the first one being dedicated to comics and animations, and the second to games, from role playing to board games, from medieval games represented in historical settings created for the occasion and... the list goes on and on!

Both sections have several areas at their disposal in the very heart of the city, although the Citadel is an area completely reserved to hosting games, exhibitions and contests in an area all over and under the ancient walls of the city, thus offering an incredibly suggestive setting: bastions, fortifications and underground itineraries that were once home, in fact, to the ancient city prisons.

Lucca's olive oil

Published in Our Blog

Olive cultivation, since ancient times, has distinguished the Province of Lucca: just think that around the middle of the fifteenth century olive oil was defined "one of the goods necessary for the life of man" and in a treatise on olive cultivation of the nineteenth century is that "the oils most celebrated for their finesse are those of LUCCA that enjoy great fame abroad. Nearly all the other oils of the Tuscany Region are approached".

All this is possible to prove it also at the event: "Il Desco - Sapori and the knowledge of Lucca" a large outdoor table where you can meet the flavors and knowledge of a land rich in food and wine: a real itinerary that returns every year to Real Collegio in Lucca during the weekends of November and December.
